Vale, the Beacon of Lightillustration of Vale
Overview Located at the gulf on Remnants of Sanus' Storm Coast end , Vale is a port city which many locals consider as the busiest settlement in Remnants . Vale also considered as the safest gateway to this area, as the overland travel is far more dangerous with beasts , monstrosities , goblins , and Horrors lurking within the lush forest which covered most of the area . Therefore , the best bet to enter Remnants of Sanus area is by securing a spot onboard of a ship , either in passenger cabins or lower deck cargo .
City of Vale has a port with numerous docks to accommodate the ships that passed over the Remnants' waters . This section is called Harbor Section , the home to few large shipyards , warehouses , and military barracks , although it is also cluttered with the dwellings of commoners .
Not far from the Harbor Section , an ancient looking lighthouse erected on a small island . At its apex , a mirror is positioned which reflected sunlight during the day , while a fire is lit at night . Nobody knows when the lighthouse was built or who built it . The lighthouse's appearance looked older than the city itself , although the harsh environment it should endured compared to the city might caused the discrepancy .

Nonetheless , the lighthouse acts as the beacon to guide the ships towards Vale , while also becoming the most known landmark of this city . Hence , "Beacon of Light" was coined as one of the city-state's nickname by local sailors .
Market Section of Vale could be found eastwards to the Harbor Section . This section is filled by warehouses and market compounds of the city-state's prevailing merchant houses . The southern part of this section borders with foot of hill , where the Central Governance and Nobles Section of this city are situated .
The Central Governance Section of Vale sits on top of a hill , while the Nobles Section lies behind the hill . Aside of the estates of noble houses , a theater known as "Crollalanza's Globe Theater" can be found at this section as well . The higher class of Vale population uses the theater to enjoy the locally famous stage plays from the locally famous playwright , Michelangelo Florio Crollalanza .
illustration of Crollalanza's Globe Theater Rumors stated that this theater is also secretly function as the "brothel" of Noble Section . It was said the actors and actresses shed their glamorous persona to offer pleasures to Vale's higher class society , both for sum of coins and promised social status . It was said the Half-Elven ones were highly prized amongst the them , and the noblemen often fight over due to the scarce numbers of available Half-Elves .
The city become more cramped and crowded northwards , where the Artisan Section sits . This section is home to many artisans and workshops , including potters , leatherworkers , stonecutters , weavers , and limners , as well as where the Dwarves and Halflings of the Remnants gathered . Crowded taverns filled the narrow streets of Artisan Section , each is full of weary commoners , laborers , and sailors ; relieving the stress coming from daily routines and hardships .
Due to the rowdy nature and the state of mind of the people who packed this section , tavern brawls are said to be common sights around here ; some even treated them like an attraction . It was said the bookies will always appear whenever a brawl broke out and lured the bystander to make bets . The local authorities seldom intervene such scenes , as long as the commotion could be contained within the tavern and its immediate surrounding . Despite of the frequent violent and loud brawls , this section is where most of the inns for travelers are located .

A slightly further to the north from Artisan Section is where several isolated streets are filled with brothels and similar entertainment places . It was said this isolated place never run out of customers , as this place also attracted traders and other visitors who sought a place to vent their lusts without having to deal with local authorities .
Lastly , the Caravan Section located at the easternmost part of this city . For most parts , this section only consisted of a wide , open space to park the caravans with stables to keep and tend the horses . There are also some cheaper establishments for travelers here , usually filled by the caravan masters and horse caretaker . The gateway to the Remnants of Sanus is located at the far east end of this section .
Demographics Just like how usually cities located in Storm Coast region will be , the human from Castille lineage makes up most population of this city , while Angevin and Aquitaine are still easy to find . A small numbers of Slavian lineage clusters around the artisan guilds' section , and they are vastly outnumbered by the other lineages .
The numbers of all non-human population combined together are slightly higher than the whole Slavian numbers in Vale . Dwarves and Halflings dominated the non-Human population , with the scarce numbers of Half-Elves are rumored only can be seen at the Crollalanza's Globe Theater in Nobles Section . Aside of the Half-Elves , there is no trace of Elves in this city .
The total head counts in this bustling port city is approximately reached ten to fifteen thousands , including the non-human populations .
Notable Figures and Groups The noble houses in Vale are mostly derived from Castille families , with House Corsini being the most prominent as the ruler of this city . However , some of the daily affairs in Vale are actually managed by the merchant and artisan guilds , with Schnee Sterling Gilde by House Schnee stood out between their peers .House Corsini Corsini Coat-of-Arms House Corsini is the de jure ruler of Vale and its surrounding for as long as citizens of Vale could remember . The venerable age of the current Marchese , Andrea Corsini , with no sign of immediate succession made it looked like just a matter of time before House Corsini eventually crumbles by itself .
It is already a public secret about the ill-fated children of Marchese's , who met their untimely ends one after another. Those unfortunate incidents continued until the Marchese had nobody else but a very young lady , who was the sole daughter of his youngest offspring . However , there were some rumors circulated regarding the young lady; some speculated that she is actually Marchese Corsini's illegitimate child , while others simply believed that the Marchese merely adopted the young lady .
Regardless the rumors , Marchese Corsini is still quite popular to Vale's city folks , especially the merchants and artisan guilds--or at least that what was seen . It was said that in his early years as ruler of Vale , Marchese Corsini granted the guilds to regulate some aspects of the city-states' laws which directly involving their daily activities , with some borderlines the guilds must abide . Some claimed the policy helped the coastal city to flourish and prosper in the past .illustration of Marchese Corsini In present days , the policy remained the same , although some observations revealed that disgruntled people--mostly laborers and merchants--who uttered dissatisfaction towards the Marchese can be found within the crowds in local taverns .
And rumors said the numbers of such people is steadily increasing as the days passed by ...
Schnee Sterling Gilde (House Schnee) Schnee Sterling Gilde emblem It was said that House Schnee was once a declining noble house based in Mistral . In the present days , they are known for Schnee Sterling Gilde , the most prominent merchant guild in Remnants of Sanus . Many rumors about how the declining noble house managed to grow into a powerful party in Remnants as a merchant guild , but most popular ones credited Nicholas Schnee in saving the House from its destruction . Those theories also inclined that Nicholas was involved in Marchese Corsini's policies to grant the guilds the power to regulate the laws related to their daily activities .
Recently , words spread that the Schnee Sterling Gilde was thrown into disarray , due to the sudden death of Jacques Schnee , the late head of House Schnee . His only son should have taken the of Schnee Sterling Gilde in his father place , but rumors said his mental state made him unable to do so . It was then Weiss Schnee , the second daughter of Jacques , who eventually stepped up to succeed her father as the head of House Schnee and defused the situation .illustration of Weiss Schnee Some words circulating between the merchants and artisans indicated that Weiss shared similar traits to Nicholas , her grandfather . However , her recent attitudes also signaled the influence of her arguably unpopular father , whose policies favoring the large guilds over the small ones . The prominent guilds were said eager to anticipate her first move as the head of House Schnee , while whispers of concerns and anxiousness flowing endlessly from the smaller guilds . In the end , the future is still uncertain ...

Orleans, the Golden Townillustration of Orleans
Overview Orleans is a hub-town located between Vale and Mistral , two city-states of Remnants . The town itself is relatively small , but has enough fortification to keep the threats of wilderness from endangering the townsfolk . The river , called Loire River by the locals , flows through the middle of this town and also the main water sources around Orleans . Fertile farmlands follow the banks of twisting river while not overstretched too far from the fortification . A sturdy bridge is built to connect the path which linked both Vale and Mistral . It was said the view of ripe wheat fields during the harvest season was where the town's nickname came from .
The western part of this town is bordered with the field of red maple forests , called Forever Fall by the locals . Following the path will guide the travelers to walk through the Forever Fall , accompanied by the parts of Loire River on the way until they arrived to the City of Vale . While in contrast , the eastern part of this town is bordered with the lush , green forest , dubbed as the Emerald Forest . Following the path towards the east will bring the travelers deeper into the Misty Forest region , with City of Mistral lying at the end of the path .
There is a group of people who patrolled around both forest to keep the threats from wilderness in check , who was called "Forest Rangers" by the locals . They are also protecting the Loire River from defilement and any other similar things which could polluted the town's water source .
Meanwhile , not too far towards the upstream from the town , a small fort called "Fort Camlann" stood tall . The fort is used as the headquarters for the Knights of Orleans , who steadfastly protect the town and the main supply line between Vale and Mistral from dangers . It was said the Forest Rangers and Knights of Orleans often working together when a dire threat is endangering Orleans .
illustration of Mountain Glenn
The locals said following the upstream of Loire River further will eventually lead to the highest peak in Remnants of Sanus , Mountain Glenn , or even went beyond that to Frozen North region . Nonetheless , no one ever reached the river's upstream ends . Meanwhile , the locals were easier to agree upon where the Loire River ends ; few leagues southwards of Vale .
Just like many other area in Misty Forest , mist often covered the town in the morning , except during Summer . It was said the thickest fog in this area will occurs all day whenever a heavy downpour hit the area in previous night . The howls and sounds made by animals and other forest inhabitants would become more intense and frequents in this situation , making people won't dare to wander outside their home . Even the bravest and most skilled Ranger won't dare to wander too far from the town's perimeter .
This condition often made the traveling merchants and other travelers to postpone their journey , as it was said the Goblinoids , Gnolls , and Lizardfolks were ready to ambush any careless travelers in the midst of the heavy fog ...
Demographics Compared to the City of Vale , the population in Orleans is dominated by Angevin and Aquitaine lineages , with small numbers of Castille descendants flocking at one specific part of this town . The Castille minorities are said to face a harsh prejudices and suspicions from the rest of town's populace , due to the bandits who are said mostly consisted of their brethren .
Meanwhile , Slavian and non-Humans are rather non-existent in this town , if not counting the rumored Elven tribes who was said living within the woods of Emerald Forest . There are also rumors about Tieflings sights within the bandits' ranks , but most people just dismissed them as Castille bandits wearing some accessories to look more menacing .
The folks of Orleans seemed like friendly rural folks at first . However , some whispers suggested they were actually only interested to preserving their own skins . The hospitality was displayed to make sure the passerby from Vale and Mistral , as well as visitors from other settlements in Remnants , wouldn't make any trouble during their stays in Orleans . Once a trouble arises , most locals will just stay out from the trouble and let the Knights of Orleans to take care of the mess . It was said they won't hesitate to sell out anyone to avoid troubles .
The headcounts of local folks in Orleans is approximately around two to three thousands . During special days like "Harvest Festivals" , the influx of visitors made the total population of this town reached nearly two folds of its local inhabitants .
Points of Interest Fort Camlannillustration of Fort Camlann A small fort located north from Orleans , where also functioned as headquarters of the Knights of Orleans . It is unknown when the fort was built , but it was rumored to be as old as the other two major city-states in Remnants , Vale and Mistral . It was also said that the fort was used as home to the previous ruler of the land in the past , although the ruler's family just vanished for unknown reason before the Knights of Orleans took over the fort .
The most popular stories suggested the fort was once overrun by Horrors , annihilating the core members of the ruler's family and forcing the survivors to evacuate to a small town located somewhere near fort , which known as Town of Orleans in present day . Then , the head of House Kopfdrachen , a loyal retainer of the perished family , gathered brave knights and warriors to reclaim the fort , which many believed as the moment when Knights of Orleans was established .
There were another less popular stories related to the origin of Fort Camlann and Knights of Orleans , but majority of the locals prefer to go with the most fairly used version .
The Birds Nestillustration of The Birds Nest The largest tavern in Orleans , which also doubles as the most noisy part of this relatively peaceful town . Some locals said this tavern is where the rumors from all over parts of Remnants of Sanus could be found , from the obvious to the obscure ones , from the major settlements to the least heard places in the area . The owner of this tavern itself is shrouded with mystery , and not everyone had ever seen the owner .
Forever Fallillustration of Forever Fall A forest located between city of Vale and town of Orleans . The main characteristic of this forest is the vibrant red color that goes throughout the year . The color pertains all year due to maple trees that dominated the plantation on the western side of Orleans . Nonetheless , there are people who believed the pertaining red color is caused by the victims of Gnolls who were killed around the area .
Despite the superstition and the actual Gnolls (and other monstrosities threat) population in the Forever Fall , the outskirt area of this forest is used by Orleans townsfolk to produce their specialty maple syrup .
Emerald Forestillustration of Emerald Forest A forest located between town of Orleans and city of Mistral . Unlike the Forever Fall , Emerald Forest stays green in almost throughout the year , saves for Winter . For some reason , mist persists longer around this part of Remnants , giving eerie atmosphere across the forest . There are beliefs that this forest was frequently used by people in the past to end their lives , or there were many lost travelers inside the forest , making the persisting mist as their rage and angers towards the living .
Present day , there are few paths made between Orleans and Mistral to prevent travelers from getting lost inside the forest . Consequently , the bandit raids became more frequent at this part of forest , due to the limited available path . Knights of Orleans and Forest Rangers do their best to keep the paths safe , but their limited resources prevent them to protect every caravans which cross the paths in Emerald Forest .
Nonetheless , there are still many merchants and travelers who braves the path to reach Mistral and vice versa . Besides , it was said if a traveler decided to find their own path , they also risk themselves to stumble upon bandits camps , Goblins tribes , Lizardfolks nests , or worse: lost in the forest , forever .
Notable Figures and Groups Town of Orleans is ruled by House Kopfdrachen , one of few lesser nobles that reside in this town . With the help from Knights of Orleans under their banner , Earl Kopfdrachen protects of this town and its surrounding . To maintain the connection between Vale and Mistral , Knights of Orleans also helped with securing the trade route as much as they could , in exchange of some tributes to the town of Orleans as operational cost to maintain the secure path . In their duty to protect the area surrounding the forest , the knights often work together with the Forest Rangers .Knights of Orleans Knights of Orleans Banners Knights of Orleans is a knight order based in town of Orleans , Remnants of Sanus . The knight order is established under the banner of House Kopfdrachen . They currently reside in Fort Camlann , a small fort located north from Orleans .Kopfdrachen Coat-of-Arms It was said House of Kopfdrachen was once a loyal retainer of now already dissolved noble house , which associated with the tales of Fort Camlann's origin . However , there were some older myths and legends from "Tales of Sanus" which referring Kopfdrachen as one of the Kings of Sanus . Nonetheless , the Kopfdrachen in present day is the ruler of Orleans , which was said for generations . The previous Earl Kopfdrachen was died recently , and succeeded by his son , a fledgling young lord named Arte Kopfdrachen .illustration of Lord Arte Kopfdrachen Lord Arte Kopfdrachen is an ambitious and optimistic young man , yet also chivalrous---a fine gentleman above all , according to most ladies in Orleans and also women who had met him in person . It was said Lord Arte already showed his leadership capabilities even when his father was still around . However , there were few words saying that the young lord might be too eager and ambitious for his own good . Fortunately , there are some fellow knights , both young and veteran ones , who are capable to become his foil and keeping the young lord in check .illustration of the Round Table and some of the order's members His close retainers whom Lord Arte kept close with him were called "Knights of the Round Table" by some locals of Orleans . It was said the name derived from the round table in Fort Camlann court room , where the lord often held a court with his knights whenever there is an important decision that needed to be made .
Currently , the members of Knights of Orleans are estimated to be around one hundred at most .
Forest Rangers Forest Rangers emblem Besides of the Knights of Orleans , there is also another known group which actively helping to keep town of Orleans' safety , namely Forest Rangers . Some sources said the group mainly patrols just beyond the perimeter of Forever Fall and Emerald Forest , with goals to fend off possible threat from the forest to the town and vice versa . They also occasionally work together with Knights of Orleans whenever there is a predicament that was too much for each party to handle themselves .
However , unlike the Knights of Orleans , there is not much known about the members of Forest Rangers . It was said they prefer to work from shadows , and have little interest to expose themselves . Various sources stated their numbers were lesser than the knight order , but there is no exact numbers . It appears their ranks is not too organized as well , although there is one particular member who was widely known by people of Orleans , called with Forest Ranger Walder , who also considered to be the leader of the Rangers .illustration of Walder It was said his behavior does not reflect his quality as a leader . However , the opinions of locals in Orleans seemed not go against him . Although , some locals said that people might like him because he often lend his time to help others . Few others just bluntly said the people like him because he just doesn't mind being used by others to tend their problems .

Mistral, the Safe Havenillustration of Mistral
Overview Mistral is known as the largest city-state in Remnants of Sanus . Located deep within the Misty Forest area , the city is quite known by the people of Remnants with her tall and sturdy stone wall . It was said the walls had protected the city and her people for decades from the constant threat of Emerald Forest dwellers , such as goblins and lizardfolks , as well as other dangerous monstrosities . Hence , the nickname of "Safe Haven" was coined by the people of Remnants to this city .
Despite being the largest city , surprisingly many sources stated there is not much that can be seen or done in the city . Most of activities are done around the caravan and commerce area , which located relatively near the gate . Aside of those , some various farming activities , starting from sheep , cattle , and other livestock , can be found around the city's outskirts . The deeper part of this city are mostly the factories for producing textile products .
There are abandoned buildings which looked like theater and other arts display buildings . Sleepy taverns and inns spread in various spots within the city , with only less than half seats filled in each taverns . The tavern that is relatively more filled than the rest is called The Bird's Cage . The resemblance between this tavern's name with the one in Orleans made some people suspected they have a shared owner .
illustration of Poitou-Somerset manor
At the center of this city , a lone manor stood tall between the smaller ones . It was said that manor is owned by the ruler of this city-state , House Poitou-Somerset . However , the manor looks far from grandeur feeling ; it emanates lonely atmosphere instead . This kind of situation made the city closer to a ghost city if compared to the other two major settlements, at least in the surface .
The thick mist which came almost in every morning and night only worsen the eerie and ghostly feels of this city .
However , some rumors said that about half of the city is now used as dens of scums . Gambling dens , brothels , underground arena for betting fights , and also places where extraordinary goods and services like weeds , slaves , and even assassins could be found easily.
Therefore , some people who claimed ever found such places in Mistral now called the city's nickname , is more like an irony rather than a compliment .
Demographics Population in Mistral mainly consists of Angevin and Aquitaine lineages . There are Castille minorities , who are mostly coming from mixed lineages . However , there is no trace of Slavian descendant in this sleepy city-state . It was said there used to be Elven and Halfling establishments not far from the city-state , but there was not even a single trace which indicated so , aside of the few Half-Elves that can be found around Mistral .
The occupation of Mistral citizens are mainly weavers . While the ones live in outskirts are mostly farmers and shepherds . There are also few hunters, although their numbers are steadily declining .
Despite being the largest establishment in Remnants of Sanus , total population in this desolate city is roughly ten thousands . There were few obscure rumors regarding Mistral's population , which indicated there was a time when part of Mistral population suddenly urged to move out from the walls to establish new settlements around the city-state .
Different sources stated different estimation of people who moved out , varies from a third to half of the total population back then . However , all of them were similar with those people's fate: they were never seen or heard again .
Notable Groups There are several Aquitaine noble houses in Mistral , but only a handful of them that might be worth to mention . Some dubious sources indicated the majority of noble houses in Mistral were the main reason on how dens for scums and alike flourished in part of Mistral , while that handful of noble houses tried to do otherwise .
However, there were obscure rumors on how those handful noble houses being "purged" one after another, as news nor rumors about them became unheard overtime . In present days, it was said that only House Poitiers remained amongst them .House Poitiers Poitiers Coat-of-Arms One of the prominent noble house in Mistral , it could be said House Poitiers was the ruler of the city-state . Some sources indicated that in the past , House Poitiers highly encourage the culture of art and literature . They also claimed to have perfected their way of fighting as another form of art , as it was said the head of House Poitiers for generations were brave warriors who fought to protect their people .
However , those were mostly things of the past , based on Mistral's situation . Many rumors said the House Poitiers regressed because of their fruitless efforts to oppose the rest of noble houses , who caused Mistral to suffer "setbacks" . All while losing their allies one after another .
Recently , there were some obscure rumors which stated the head of House Poitiers passed away . Some suggested that the head died due to illness , while others suspected he was assassinated . Nonetheless , it seemed the condition of House Poitiers and city of Mistral will not improve in the near future...
House Schnee Schnee Coat-of-Arms Before their rumored decline , House Schnee was known as one of the prominent noble house in Mistral . Aside of vast farmlands they owned around Mistral , the Schnee family was also known with their militaristic nature . Therefore , House Schnee had some kind of rivalry with House Poitiers in some aspects . Nonetheless , House Schnee was known as an amicable ally with the ruler of Mistral .
While House Schnee in present day is better known with their Schnee Sterling Gilde in Vale , their core still remains in Mistral . However , what remained in the Safe Haven is mostly only their manors and some minor assets . Furthermore , House Schnee also maintained their relationship with House Poitiers under Nicholas Schnee's reign . However , the relationship between two families was not clear when Jacques took the lead of House Schnee ; some rumors even suggested their long-time alliance fell apart during that period .
Some rumors suggested that there was entourage from Schnee Sterling Gilde visited the manor in Mistral routinely . However , no one was sure whether it was the family members themselves who visited the manor or one of their employees , and what kind of business they had in the Safe Haven...
