Midlund Overview

Part II: Place of Interest


City of Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the stronghold of House Fortier. It’s a medium sized city with strong walls. Because of the open farmland and vineyard that surrounds the city, it is quite difficult for enemies to approach the city unnoticed.

Bordeaux has a population well over twelve thousands with Aquitaine majority, followed with sizeable Angevin and Castillan minority. There’s only a small number of Slavic people, most are not permanent residents.

The city garrison a sizeable army with a variety of specialized soldiers. The streets are moderately patrolled and the neighborhoods are relatively safe during the day. You might still be required to watch your own belongings and avoid back alleys and corner markets.

The best place to stay (and also the safest) would be the Main Street Guesthouse. However, you are required to report your presence to the local constable before you are given permission to stay in the guesthouse. Though there are other inns and place to stay, safety is not guaranteed if you look like a good mark for outlaws. Furthermore, there are plenty of relatively clean tavern within the city walls.


City of Warwick 

The gateway to Northern Region. Warwick is only marginally smaller than Bordeaux, but it has almost as strong as defensive structures. The city overlooking a grassland where herd of cattles usually graze during suitable seasons. With numerous vantage points, the area is suitable to ambush would be attackers.

Warwick has a population of ten thousands with Angevin majority, followed by Aquitaine and Castillan Minority. They also possess an army that closely matches that of Bordeaux’s. There are no Slavic people within the borders of Warwick. This is not because of prohibition, rather because of no sane Slavic man or woman willing to face similar fate of House Uzyar. Believing it to be supernatural badluck for a Slavic just to stand in the gateway.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, Warwick has the Wagoners’ Inn. Taverns aplenty too, but Warwick’s taverns are known for being a bit more bawdy and rowdy than taverns from other places.


Town of Vigo

This port town is located near river Thanes, complete with simple network of waterways that connected to the river. Small boats with flat keels can easily navigate through the waterways, but larger ships can only drop anchor at the main port. Though the city lacks a good planning, most locals have no trouble in navigating the streets and waterways.

Vigo has the smallest army compared to other cities. However, House Venix possess a small armada of naval ships patrolling the river Thanes.

The population is slightly over three thousands with Castillan and Aquitaine majority. There are some pockets of Angevine and Slavic community, though they are mostly there for business rather than permanent residency.

Vigo has many lodgings and taverns with varying quality, and they can be quite festive on good days (that is if they even manage to secure good days).


Castle Uzar

House Uzyar’s stronghold is located deep within the Northern Region. Those who still remembers it, recalls that the stronghold is quite massive and difficult to lay siege on. Given the period of time Uzyar has been cut off from the rest of Midlund, no one knows how things improved or deteriorated in regard to their defensive capabilities, if they survive at all.

Several attempts made to re-establish contact with House Uzyar have been for naught. Scouts forced to return due to wheather or failed to return. Nowadays most Midlunders have accepted the fact that House Uzyar may have fallen for good, bringing their entire people and legacy with them. A grim reminder of the reality of Horrors.


Whispering Forest
Although Midlund has many forest, none as terribly strange as the Whispering Forest. Some hunters still hunt on the outskirts of the forest, but no one dares to step into the forest. Similarly, lumberjacks won’t harvest wood from this particular forest.

The deeper you get, the more you will see ruins from forgotten era. Most of these ruins are haunted or otherwise become the nesting ground of monsters. Strange mythical beings from folklores often made their appearance here, many even ventures to settlements to ply their bloody trade in the cover of night and mist.

Though some mercenary guilds offer their service to the people of Midlund, even the most experienced mercenary will tread carefully once rumor of horror surfaces. No mercenary with common sense will take jobs that involve sightings of horrors. Such task usually taken by the inquisitors who roam the land in secrets, just as secretive as the horrors they hunt.


Winter Spines
This mountain range is one of the deadliest place in Northern Region. Located in close proximity with House Uzyar’s domain, some people speculated this place is where the doom of Uzyar originated. Blizzard frequent its slopes and creatures of darkness and cold roam unfettered.

There is a rumor of the existence of an ancient evil deep within the Winter Spines that influence the rise of horrors within Midlund. Even if such stories were unconfirmed, most Midlunders took this tale seriously, because horror stories rarely stay as stories and are just waiting to happen for real.
