Long, long time ago...
Exist a region where people lived side by side, fighting the enemies of mortals, especially the Horrors, as one; driving them away to the edge of civilizations. The region was known as 'Sanus', means 'healthy' or 'sound'; as if claiming itself as one of the few places where people could be safe from the terror of Horrors.
With the most dangerous, visible threat in check, Sanus region was thriving under the rule of wise kings and benevolent queens. They divided the land in accordance to each of their powers and capabilities, along with responsibility to keep the land and their people from the threats; especially the Horrors. Various people and races could live in harmony, each with their own way. It was claimed the people of Sanus attained decades, or even centuries of peaceful period; an apex of civilization that could be hoped by the mortals on that age.
However, as the civilization grew, so did the power---and the desire. Moved by the unquenchable thirst for more, the rulers of the land of Sanus started to probe each others. After some period of uneasiness and suspicions between one and another, a small conflict was all needed to start the downfall. Then, before long, the situation eventually escalated into an unmitigable mess: wars between the kingdoms of Sanus.
Alas, with humanity busy with their own internal affairs and conflicts, the Horrors terrorized the people of Sanus once more. The rulers of Sanus, all fought over their own egocentric issues, were unable to keep the Horrors' in check, much less the corruption which slowly taking over from inside. As if they already awaited for the opportunity, the other enemies of mortals also joining the fray, hastening the demise of Sanus' civilization.
In the end, it was the civilization who turned against itself, spiralling into a series of self-destructive conflicts, undoing everything they had achieved in shorter period of time than their efforts took to build...

- synopsis of an old book titled "Tales of Sanus - the Fallen Land of the Sane", adapted by M.B.P.S.
One day, a sealed parchment case came unto your possession. Should you decided to open the case, you will find several bundled parchments, with the only two unbound sheets contain a transcript as you can read above, as well as another sheets with a rather different handwriting as below...
To whom it may concern,
I would like to relay some intel I had collected regarding an area called "Remnants of Sanus". Most of the information I bundled along with this letter was gained from the "Grandmaster", leader of local Inquisition in the said area. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time nor resources to confirm and crosscheck the whole information I obtained. Therefore, while I had added several things from what I found during my brief observation there, it will be safer to take my notes with a grain of salt.
The parchments on the bundle tied by hempen rope contain general information known by public, whereas the other bundle tied by silk rope contain sensitive information that should be only known by your circle. Should the information in the silk-tied bundle was spread wider than they should, an emergency measure would be taken to prevent unwanted things.
As for the tales synopsis included along with this letter, it is from local myths and legends forgotten by their people. The tales themselves were said rather vague with the landscape description, thus they are rather useless for describing this area in general. There are rumors that these tales were used by few cells of local Inquisition as examples for their cadets about the danger of unchecked Vices, but no more than that.
In the end, I hope the information you found here will be enough to get you a general overview about the "Remnants of Sanus".
May the Gods bless your quest.
